Seller Description

“The Honda NSX, which later became known as the Acura NSX in the United States, was a groundbreaking sports car with a unique approach to performance and comfort. Honda set out to create a sports car that was not just about speed but also offered comfort and safety features. This was a departure from the traditional sports car ethos that often sacrificed comfort and safety for performance. Initially, Honda considered using steel for the car’s construction but found it too heavy and conventional. Instead, they decided to develop an aluminum monocoque, which was lighter and offered better performance characteristics. The design of the NSX was inspired by the F-16 fighter jet, which contributed to its aerodynamic and sleek appearance. Prototypes of the NSX were extensively tested on tracks like the Suzuka Circuit and the Nürburgring with famed racing driver Ayrton Senna providing feedback during testing, pushing for even greater rigidity in the car’s chassis. In 1989, the NSX was unveiled to the world. The prototype made a stunning appearance at the 81st Chicago Auto Show. The name “NS-X” originally stood for “New,” “Sportscar,” and “unknown world,” with the “X” representing a variable. It was later simplified to “NSX,” signifying “New Sports eXperimental.” Just a year after its debut, Honda began production of the NSX. It quickly gained a reputation for its performance and the balance it struck between speed, comfort, and safety. The NSX has remained highly sought after by enthusiasts and collectors, with well-maintained examples commanding high prices, often in the six figures. Its legacy endures as a symbol of Honda’s engineering prowess and innovation in the sports car market. The Honda (Acura) NSX set a new standard for sports cars by combining performance with everyday usability and advanced engineering, making it a classic in the world of automotive enthusiasts”.

Significant performance upgrades made to the 1997 Honda/Acura NSX. These improvements not only resulted in increased horsepower and torque but also made the car more efficient and enhanced its overall performance. The transition to a 3.2 L C32B engine with a thinner FRM cylinder liner, reconfigured exhaust manifold, and stainless steel header pipes led to a substantial power boost. The introduction of a 6-speed manual transmission with optimized gear ratios and other engineering changes improved acceleration and performance. The use of a stronger aluminum alloy for key body parts balanced the weight increase from the new transmission and larger brake rotors, resulting in a minimal net curb weight increase. These enhancements, along with additional features like keyless entry and electric power steering, collectively made the 1997 Acura NSX a more capable and refined sports car compared to its previous iterations.

Autobiography

Speedart Motorsports is delighted to present this instant classic and highly desirable exotica of its generation, the Acura NSX… arguably the most accomplished and defining supercar of the 90’s.

Chassis No.179 rolled off the Takanezawa plant in the prefecture of Tochigi, Japan in the second week of February, 1997 and delivered to its first owner towards the end of the following month via the Acura Center of Gaithersburg, Maryland.

The NSX-T stayed with its first custodian for sixteen years and mostly maintained by the selling dealer while in Maryland, accumulating a total of 75,000 miles. The car was subsequently sold to its second and last owner, a Florida enthusiast, on May of 2014. The NSX was fastidiously serviced throughout its life in Miami while kept indoors in a climate controlled facility and enjoyed sparingly, clocking almost 8,000 careful miles in the course of the last nine years.

This highly original NA2 is finished in a menacing livery of Berlina Black (NH-547) over Black leather and although is currently fitted with a later model 17 inch all-around OEM wheels with the wider rear foot print and Pirelli P Zero Nero mounted tires, it is also accompanied by the original 16/7.0 and 17/8.5 set.

This driver quality specimen displays minimum patina with the exterior paint showing wonderfully and professionally detailed to the highest standards, while the cockpit is still fresh with all systems functioning as intended. Upon close examination, the automobile is presented free of any major incidents with a non-derogatory CarFax report substantiating such condition and available upon request – due to some superficial blemishes the rear bumper has been recently re-sprayed.

With the last recorded service in August of 2023 and prior maintenance performed by a local specialist the NSX-T is on the button and ready to be enjoyed by its next caretaker. The clutch and flywheel was serviced in November 2021 and with only 500 miles of usage, the Science of Speed Sport 275 kit will please the most spirited driver. The all-season P Zeros display an almost intact tread and all four corners are dialed within the manufacturer’s tolerances.

The automobile is supplied with spare keys and key fob, owner’s manual, service booklet and literature, original tool kit, maintenance records as well as a full set of the original alloy wheels.
