Every so often a car manufacturer builds a car so out of its normal range that the whole automotive world stops to stare at it. Such was the case with the Acura NSX. Acura broke the mold by creating a mid-engine sports car that could compete with the Porsche 911, Chevrolet Corvette and Ferrari 348’s of its era. The Acura NSX is a two-passenger, transverse-mounted mid-engine sports car introduced by Honda in 1991. Powered by a 3.0-liter C30A V6 equippedwith Honda’s VTEC valve timing and lift control system, the first NSX for sale produced 270 horsepower and 210 pound feet of torque. The NSX was the first production car to use an all-aluminum semi-monocoque unit body, reducing the curb weight to just 3,010 pounds to improve performance and deliver its superb handling. The benefit of being built by Honda is that reliability is built into its pedigree, and it was designed with input from Honda’s F1 team.
